Promoting Signature Local Produce and Boosting the Economy
Events Showcasing Gijang Green Onions and Pancakes
Gijang County in Busan will host the 6th Gijang Pancake Festival over two days, from November 8 to 9, at the parking lot of the Shinsegae Busan Premium Outlets.
This event is organized by the Gijang Green Onion Agricultural Cooperative. It aims to widely promote the excellent taste and quality of 'Gijang Green Onion,' a geographically indicated agricultural product, and to invigorate the local economy.
During the festival, a variety of programs will be offered, including: ▲ Cooking and selling Gijang pancakes (10,000 won per serving, with Makgeolli or a beverage provided upon purchase) ▲ Discount sales of Gijang green onions (peeled and unpeeled) and green onion kimchi ▲ Direct trade markets for agricultural and specialty products ▲ Promotional events for Gijang green onions and pancakes.
Pancakes made with 'Gijang Green Onion,' known for their rich aroma and sweetness created by sea breezes, are considered the highlight of the festival.
County Governor Jeong Jongbok said, "Gijang green onions are a representative local agricultural product with a unique aroma and deep flavor, thanks to the influence of the sea breeze. I hope many citizens and tourists will visit the festival and experience the taste and charm of Gijang green onions firsthand."
'Gijang Green Onion' was registered as Geographical Indication No. 105 in March 2018 and is the only green onion in Korea with this certification. Recognized for its historical background, local character, and geographic uniqueness, it is gaining nationwide fame.
