Farmers' Day originated from the philosophy of farming, which states, "We seek the truth of the soil, live with the soil as our companion, and return to the soil after life." The date, November 11, was chosen as an auspicious day because the Chinese character for soil (土) is formed by combining the characters for ten (十) and one (一), both of which overlap on this date.
This event was organized by the Gwangju City Agricultural Association Council. More than 1,000 people attended, including Mayor Bang Sehwan, the chairman and members of the city council, heads of various organizations and institutions, and local farmers, making the event a great success.
During the ceremony, 20 individuals-including contributors to the development of agriculture and rural communities as well as outstanding farmers-were awarded commendations. The event also featured a variety of programs, such as traditional folk games and a talent show for farmers, providing a meaningful occasion to recognize and encourage the dedication of farmers who continue to advance agriculture despite challenging circumstances.
Additionally, side events included exhibition and promotional booths for high-quality agricultural and livestock products produced in the region, widely promoting the excellence of Gwangju City's agricultural products to citizens.
In particular, the local agricultural and specialty product promotion center operated by Naturechae Food Farm Center, a Korean beef bulgogi tasting corner run by Gwangju Livestock Cooperative, and booths selling processed agricultural goods prepared by organizations such as the Women Farmers' Association and the Rural Living Improvement Association received enthusiastic responses from citizens.
