Dong-Eui University College of Science (President Kim Youngdo) announced on November 6 that Professor Lee Taesik of the Department of Physical Therapy received a commendation from the Mayor of Busan for his contributions to laying the groundwork for peaceful reunification.
Professor Lee serves as an advisory board member for the North-South Disabled Persons Treatment Support Council, a nonprofit organization under the Ministry of Unification. He is recognized as the only scholar in the Busan area who has consistently conducted research on rehabilitation and physical therapy for people with disabilities in North Korea.
During his tenure as president of the Korean Physical Therapists Association (2016-2018), Professor Lee spearheaded the establishment of the North-South Disabled Persons Treatment Support Council and took the lead in creating the necessary institutional framework, laying the foundation for health and rehabilitation cooperation between the two Koreas. These achievements led to his recent commendation.
Professor Lee stated, "Physical therapy is more than just a medical procedure; it is about restoring human dignity and quality of life. I will continue my research and volunteer work to help build a healthier society for both South and North Korea."
Dong-Eui University College of Science plans to use this occasion to further expand its academic and social activities focused on peace and coexistence in collaboration with the local community.
