Collaboration on Joint Discovery of Tourism Resources and Content Development

Imsil County in Jeonbuk has joined hands with Jinan County and Sunchang County to revitalize tourism in the Seomjin River area.

The county announced on November 6 that it had signed a business agreement to boost tourism in the Seomjin River region during the "Jeonbuk Seomjin River Area Tourism Revitalization Forum," which was held at the National Jinan Highland Forest Healing Center on November 4.

About 80 people attended the signing ceremony, including Sim Min, Governor of Imsil County, Jeon Chunseong, Governor of Jinan County, Choi Youngil, Governor of Sunchang County, Kim Hyunhwan, former Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Jeon Yongtae, member of the Jeonbuk Provincial Council, as well as related officials and local residents.

The agreement was established to formally build a cooperative system among local governments within the Seomjin River area in Jeonbuk Province and to seek a model for mutual development and joint utilization of regional tourism resources.

Under the agreement, the three counties will closely cooperate to: jointly discover and plan tourism content; improve wide-area tourism infrastructure; collaborate on promotion and marketing; jointly respond to public project bids; and form a "Seomjin River Area Tourism Council" (tentative name), thereby laying the foundation for sustainable tourism development.

In particular, by jointly responding to central government project bids, the counties aim to secure funding and promote the development of integrated tourism routes and experiential programs that connect nature, ecology, leisure, healing, and cultural resources centered on the Seomjin River. This comprehensive tourism strategy is expected to link the three counties into a single tourism belt.

The county plans to strengthen its role as an innovative connector within the region, leveraging the scenic Seomjin River basin and its healing and experiential tourist attractions.

Through this agreement, Imsil County expects to enhance the competitiveness of its leading tourist destinations, such as Okjeongho Bungoe Island Ecological Park, Okjeongho Waterfront Tourist Site, and Imsil Cheese Theme Park. The county also anticipates this will serve as an opportunity to expand wide-area tourism demand and address local issues.

The county will actively pursue a tourism strategy that links Okjeongho Bungoe Island Ecological Park-a natural healing site with year-round waterfront scenery and ecological experiences-with the development of Okjeongho Waterfront Tourist Site through expanded decks, walking trails, and scenic viewpoints, as well as the rapidly growing Imsil Cheese Theme Park, a hub for leather experience tourism. These efforts are expected to invigorate the local economy.

Governor Sim Min stated, "Each of the three regions, including our county, possesses unique and attractive cultural and tourism resources. If we combine our strengths, the Seomjin River area will grow into a leading healing and stay-type tourist destination representing not only Jeonbuk but all of Korea, and Imsil County will play a central role in this effort."
