Goseong County Achieves Selection for the 'Coastal Village New Vitality Promotion Project' for Four Consecutive Years
Building a Self-Sustaining Model Where Residents Need Not Move to Urban Areas
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on November 5 that a total of 34 locations nationwide applied for the '2026 Coastal Village New Vitality Promotion Project' target area competition, which was held from September 15 to October 17.

The 'Coastal Village New Vitality Promotion Project' is a flagship national policy initiative of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, aiming to regenerate and develop vibrant coastal villages with a total budget of 30 billion won over five years starting in 2026. The project will be implemented in two categories: ▲Coastal Village Economic Leap Type (up to 40 billion won per site) and ▲Coastal Village Recovery Type (up to 10 billion won per site).
As a result of this competition, Daejin Port in Goseong County was finally selected as the target site for the Coastal Village Economic Leap Type project. With this, Goseong County achieved the significant accomplishment of being selected for the Coastal Village New Vitality Promotion Project for four consecutive years, following Gonghyeonjin Port in 2023, Oho Port in 2024, and Bongpo Port in 2025.
Accordingly, Goseong County has secured a total project budget of 30 billion won (15 billion won from the national government, 4.5 billion won from the provincial government, and 10.5 billion won from the county government).
The 'Daejin Port Coastal Village Economic Leap Type Development Project' aims to establish a key regional economic hub by linking government-funded projects and private investment, focusing on national and local fishing ports.
The main components of the project include: ▲creating a marine food brand space (such as 'Marine Square' and 'Eoulrim Center') that combines seafood processing and sales facilities with local gourmet content; ▲improving residential conditions by connecting the port with nearby living areas; and ▲promoting job creation and economic revitalization in coastal villages.
Ham Myungjun, Mayor of Goseong County, stated, "Daejin Port is a national fishing port and the central hub of the northern port area in Goseong. Through this project, we expect it to develop into a complex coastal economic hub that integrates seafood processing, distribution, and tourism. We will actively reflect residents' opinions and strive to create a self-sustaining coastal village model where people can enjoy a full life without having to move to urban areas."
