Hallym University’s Han Woojae and Park Beomgeun Win Awards
Excellence in AI-Based Hearing Loss Rehabilitation Research Demonstrated
The Department of Audiology at Hallym University (President Choi Yanghee) has achieved the honor of both a professor and a student receiving awards at the 28th Annual Conference of the Korean Society of Audiology and Speech Rehabilitation.

This academic conference was held on November 1 at Ilsong Hall, Seoul Kangdong Sacred Heart Hospital, serving as a platform for domestic and international researchers in audiology and speech rehabilitation to present and exchange the latest research findings. Professor Han Woojae received the Best Oral Presentation Award, while student Park Beomgeun won the Excellence Award for Poster Presentation, thereby demonstrating the department’s academic excellence and research competitiveness.
Professor Han Woojae’s oral presentation, titled “Error Rate-Based Analysis of Speech Perception Disorders in Age-Related Hearing Loss,” was a study that meticulously explored the speech recognition process in elderly patients with hearing loss through error rate analysis. In particular, the research was highly praised by the judges for laying the foundation for the development of a “one-stop care system” that accurately diagnoses auditory and language cognitive decline in the elderly using artificial intelligence (AI)-based speech recognition technology, and connects this diagnosis to rehabilitation and hearing aid fitting.
This Best Presentation Award is a representative achievement that demonstrates Hallym University’s audiology research team is leading the future field of AI-based auditory rehabilitation, and it is expected to greatly contribute to expanding research networks both domestically and internationally, as well as innovating hearing loss diagnosis based on convergent technologies.

Additionally, Park Beomgeun, who received the Excellence Award in the poster category, is a member of the LISN academic club in the audiology major (supervised by Professor Jin Ingi). He demonstrated outstanding research capabilities as an undergraduate by presenting the original topic, “Binaural Beat Auditory Stimulation and Enhancement of Concentration.” His research, which newly approached the positive effects of auditory stimulation on cognitive concentration, was recognized by the judges for its high creativity and practical value.
Jin Ingi, head of the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, stated, “This award, in which both a professor and a student achieved excellent research results together, demonstrates that Hallym University’s audiology program possesses the highest level of educational and research capabilities in Korea. We will continue to focus on nurturing next-generation professionals in the field of audiology, based on convergent thinking that encompasses artificial intelligence, auditory rehabilitation, and digital healthcare.”
Meanwhile, since becoming the first department in Korea to receive Ministry of Education accreditation in 2001, the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at Hallym University has continuously produced leading talent in the field through a systematic curriculum, practice-oriented clinical training, and industry-collaborative research. This recent achievement is a meaningful result that shows Hallym University’s audiology education has firmly established itself as an “academic discipline combining research and practice.”
