Cadets from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Armed Forces Nursing Academy will embark on a joint cruise training exercise aboard naval vessels.
On November 5, the Navy announced that the 2025 Joint Cruise Training Task Group would hold a departure ceremony at the Jinhae Naval Base in South Gyeongsang Province and commence the joint cruise training. The joint cruise training is designed to enhance cadets' understanding of the Navy and foster joint operational capabilities. This marks the eighth exercise since its inception in 2018.
This year’s exercise will involve 706 second-year cadets from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Armed Forces Nursing Academy, as well as the large transport ship Marado (LPH, 14,500-ton class), the landing ships Ilchulbong and Nojeokbong (LST-II, 4,900-ton class), a Navy maritime operations helicopter (Lynx), and a Marine Corps amphibious maneuver helicopter (MUH-1). During the voyage, the cadets will observe a variety of exercises, including naval tactical maneuvers, mobile logistics, and Deck Landing Qualification (DLQ) training for helicopters. They will also directly participate in navigation watch, battle stations, and damage control drills.
Additionally, the Joint Cruise Training Task Group is scheduled to make port calls in Jeju and Guam, a U.S. territory, during the training period. In Jeju, the cadets will tour the Naval Mobile Fleet Command and the 9th Marine Brigade. In Guam, they will visit the U.S. Navy base and the state government, and pay their respects at the Korean War Veterans Memorial.
Kang Myunggil, Commander of the Joint Cruise Training Task Group, stated, "This exercise is a valuable opportunity for cadets, who are the future leaders of our advanced military, to learn the skills and virtues required of officers and to deepen their understanding of the Navy. During the training period, all members of the Joint Cruise Training Task Group will do their utmost to ensure that cadets cultivate joint operational thinking and develop the sense of national identity required of future officers, achieving the training objectives safely and clearly."
