Chairman Han Youngtae:
"It Is Time to Prepare for the Sustainable Development of Gyeongju After APEC"
Han Youngtae, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea Gyeongju Regional Committee, issued a statement on November 4, saying, "The 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit held in Gyeongju, a city with a thousand-year history, has elevated the status of Korean diplomacy and marked a historic turning point for Gyeongju to become a center of international diplomacy."
Chairman Han evaluated, "This summit not only achieved diplomatic results with major countries such as the United States, China, and Japan, but also led global discussions on bridging the artificial intelligence technology gap and addressing technological inequality, thereby imprinting Korea's diplomatic capabilities on the world stage."
Han Youngtae, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea Gyeongju Regional Committee, meets with President Lee Jae-myung ahead of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to have a meal and convey long-cherished projects for the sustainable development of Gyeongju beyond APEC.
He added, "The public diplomacy program based on Gyeongju's historical and cultural assets has also been highly praised by people around the world, reaffirming Korea's status as a cultural powerhouse. Above all, the success of this summit would not have been possible without the dedication and cooperation of the citizens of Gyeongju."
He continued, "Despite various difficulties such as traffic control, inconveniences with accommodation, and restrictions on daily life during the event, the citizens of Gyeongju supported the success of this international event with their mature civic spirit. The pride of Gyeongju's citizens is the pride of Korea, and I would like to express my deepest gratitude for this."
Chairman Han stated, "Now we stand at a point where we must prepare for POST APEC, that is, Gyeongju after APEC," and pledged, "The Democratic Party of Korea Gyeongju Regional Committee will ensure that the achievements of this summit do not end as a one-time event, but will strive in the following directions to lead to the sustainable development of Gyeongju."
He continued, "First, we will work together across party lines to improve Gyeongju's urban infrastructure, such as accommodation and transportation, and to develop the city into one that is suitable for hosting international events. Through these efforts, we will strengthen Gyeongju's urban identity as a city where culture, tourism, and diplomacy harmonize, and establish the institutional foundation for Gyeongju to grow into a world-class city of cultural diplomacy."
