Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters to Implement "Winter Fire Prevention Measures" Through February Next Year

The Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters will establish and implement "winter fire prevention measures" for four months, until February 28 next year.

The main measures include: ▲ Intensive inspections of "priority management targets" such as high-risk facilities including data centers, battery facilities, aging apartment complexes, and large construction sites ▲ Strengthening response systems for evacuation-vulnerable facilities such as piloti-structured buildings and facilities used by the elderly and people with disabilities ▲ Pre-inspections of multi-use facilities ahead of the year-end, Christmas, and Lunar New Year holidays.

In particular, during fire-prone periods such as Christmas and Lunar New Year, special emergency duty and weather alert response systems will be activated.

In addition, the headquarters will promote fire prevention for heating appliances and batteries, conduct campaigns to install fire safety equipment in homes, and carry out educational visits to vulnerable groups, all as part of activities to spread a participatory safety culture among residents.

Choi Yongcheol, dedicated duty officer at the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "Since 37.5% of all fires occur during the winter, even a small act of carelessness can lead to a major accident. The most effective prevention is voluntary inspections by residents, and Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters will ensure thorough responses to protect everyone's safety."

Meanwhile, according to the headquarters, there were a total of 7,931 fires in Gyeonggi Province last year, with 2,980 of those-37.5%-occurring during the winter months (November to February).
