Won Jongdae Appointed as Director-General for Resource Management
The Ministry of National Defense announced on October 31 that it has newly appointed Kim Eunseong, currently Director of Health and Welfare, as Director-General for Planning and Coordination, and Won Jongdae, former Director of Power Policy, as Director-General for Resource Management.
The Director-General for Planning and Coordination is responsible for overseeing and coordinating work related to national defense planning, the mid-term defense plan, organization, budget, and the National Assembly, as well as defense informatization policy. The Director-General for Resource Management oversees and coordinates policies related to resource management for the military, including the formulation and management of power operation and military facility policies, and the relocation of military airports.
Newly appointed Director-General Kim Eunseong has become the first female official to be appointed to a director-general-level position at the Ministry of National Defense. Since entering public service through the 44th Higher Civil Service Examination in 2001, she has held various key positions, including Director of Health and Welfare, Director of the Defense Industry Bureau at the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, Director of Operations Support, and Director of Planning and Coordination.
Regarding the background of the appointments, the Ministry of National Defense stated, “She is recognized as the most suitable candidate to fulfill the duties of Director-General for Planning and Coordination, which requires comprehensive management of key defense functions such as the National Assembly, organization, and budget, thanks to her proactive approach to work and excellent communication skills.”
Director-General for Resource Management Won Jongdae entered public service through the 31st Higher Civil Service Examination in 1996 and has since served in key positions such as Director of Power Policy at the Ministry of National Defense, Head of Future Power Project Support at the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and Head of Command, Control, and Communications Projects. The Ministry stated, “Based on his extensive experience in the power sector, he will successfully advance key national policy tasks such as fostering the K-defense industry and improving the acquisition system to become one of the world’s top four defense powers, as well as utilizing advanced defense artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.”
With these appointments, the Ministry of National Defense has completed all new appointments to director-general-level positions. The Ministry added, “Focusing on the new directors-general, we plan to accelerate the implementation of key policy tasks and major work.”
