Over 200 Participants from Police, Fire Department, and Korea Electric Power Corporation
Jangsu County in North Jeolla Province conducted the "2025 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill" on October 30 at the county office's Disaster and Safety Situation Room and Hannuri Hall.
According to the county on October 31, this drill is part of a nationwide initiative designed to strengthen disaster response capabilities and review response systems in preparation for large-scale disasters.
More than 200 participants, including officials from 14 organizations such as the county office, Jangsu Police Station, Jangsu Fire Station, the 2nd Battalion of the 7733rd Unit, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, KT Corporation, the Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps, the Volunteer Fire Brigade, and local residents, took part in the drill.
This year’s exercise simulated complex disaster scenarios, including a major fire at a multi-use facility caused by a gas explosion and the occurrence of a sinkhole due to ground subsidence. Both discussion-based and field training were conducted in parallel.
The participating organizations reviewed response procedures for each stage, such as rescue operations, fire suppression, emergency restoration, and resident evacuation. They also practiced rapid initial response and cooperation systems in a realistic disaster environment.
In particular, in line with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s key priorities, the Public Safety LTE (PS-LTE) disaster safety communication network was used to facilitate real-time communication and information sharing between the situation room and the field, highlighting the importance of establishing a swift command system among related agencies.
Choi Hunsik, the county governor, stated, "This drill focused not only on fire suppression but also on relief activities and checking the resident evacuation system to prepare for complex disaster situations, such as sinkhole incidents, which have recently become a social issue." He added, "We will continue to establish a disaster response system capable of protecting the lives and safety of county residents through repeated drills that closely resemble real-life situations."
