A Fierce Showdown of Bulls... 2025 Cheongdo Bullfighting Festival to Be Held

Cheongdo County (Governor Kim Hasu) announced that it will host the 2025 Cheongdo County National Folk Bullfighting Tournament at the Cheongdo Bullfighting Stadium for five days from November 5 to November 9.


The 2025 Cheongdo County National Folk Bullfighting Tournament, held at the nation’s only dedicated bullfighting dome stadium, will feature a total of 196 fighting bulls from across the country.

The competition will be divided into six weight classes: Large Baekdu, Small Baekdu, Large Taebaek, Small Taebaek, Large Hangang, and Small Hangang. Matches will be conducted in a tournament format, with a total prize pool of 110 million won at stake.


The preliminary rounds will begin on the 5th, and starting from the 8th, the opening ceremony will take place, followed by the main tournament matches, where the top fighting bulls that have advanced through intense preliminaries will compete for the championship.


On the 9th, the finals for each weight class will be held, and to provide a thrilling and suspenseful experience for spectators, four additional bullfighting matches in a gambling format are scheduled.


The opening ceremony of this tournament will feature a spectacular opening performance and a celebratory concert by singer Kim Hyeyeon. During the weekend, outside the stadium, there will be booths selling high-quality local agricultural products produced in Cheongdo, a Korean beef sales booth, a persimmon dyeing booth, as well as promotional booths for returning to farming and rural life, and for the birthplace of the Saemaul Undong movement.


Kim Hasu, Governor of Cheongdo County, stated, "Through this tournament, I hope visitors will enjoy the unique traditional culture of bullfighting, visit various tourist attractions including the Nine Scenic Spots of Cheongdo, and experience the autumn atmosphere of our county."
