From October 30 for three days, Sangmyung University co-hosted the 3rd Annual Forum of the International Alliance of Arts Management (IAAM) with the Seoul Metropolitan Council and the Yeyeon Cultural Foundation at Koreana Hotel in Seoul. Through the official accreditation process of the International Alliance of Arts Management, the Asia Center for Arts Management was launched.
During this year’s IAAM Annual Forum, participants shared solutions and case studies on strengthening collaboration among international arts management researchers, building governance for public theaters, restructuring creative ecosystems, festivals, and audience development. They also discussed topics such as establishing international indicator systems for cultural influence and arts content, data standardization, cross-national comparative studies, and ways to link academic research with policy.
In particular, the Seoul Metropolitan Council awarded a certificate of commendation to Sangmyung University President Kim Jonghee in recognition of his contributions to the development of culture and the arts.
The International Alliance of Arts Management (IAAM) is a collaborative organization that brings together experts from the cultural and arts sectors in Korea, China, Australia, France, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It serves as a global platform connecting Asia, Europe, Oceania, and the Americas for cooperation in arts management, fostering international collaboration on global cultural influence index standards, and seeking ways to link academic networks with policy.
The Asia Center for Arts Management, established at Sangmyung University, aims to promote the sustainable development of the Asian cultural industry and establish global governance. It will integrate exchanges in arts management research and education across Asia, quantify the achievements of the cultural and arts content industry, and pursue data-driven policy design and industrial strategy. The center is expected to position Korea as a hub for Asian arts management and establish a Korean-style cultural indicator system.
President Kim Jonghee of Sangmyung University stated, "Sangmyung University has worked to present a vision for the future of arts management, where academia, industry, and the local community are harmoniously connected, centering on the Department of Global Cultural Contents and the Department of Arts and Cultural Management. I hope that the Asia Center for Arts Management at Sangmyung University will become a hub for Asian arts management exchange and a center for cooperation linking academia, industry, local communities, and the world."
