Simulated Fire Drill at GS Retail Logistics Center
Accelerating Efforts to Build a Safer City
On October 29, 2025, Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province conducted the 2025 Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill at the GS Retail Logistics Center located in Dabang-dong, simulating the occurrence of a large-scale fire.
This drill assumed a disaster scenario in which a major fire inside the logistics warehouse resulted in multiple casualties and the fire spreading to parts of Dabang Village. In response, a Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and an On-site Integrated Support Headquarters were established and operated, with a focus on assessing practical response capabilities throughout the entire process, from initial response to recovery.
More than 200 participants from 17 organizations and groups, including Yangsan City, Yangsan Fire Station, Yangsan Police Station, the 3rd Battalion of the 5870th Unit, Korea Electric Power Corporation Yangsan Branch, GS Networks, the Voluntary Disaster Prevention Corps, and the Women's Civil Defense Corps, took part in the drill, strengthening practical disaster response capabilities through an organic collaborative system.
In particular, rather than relying solely on manual-based simulations, the drill utilized a real-time video communication system connecting the on-site location and the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters situation room. This enabled communication regarding the fire situation, rescue activities, and the operation of the On-site Integrated Support Headquarters. The drill realistically simulated field-centered response procedures, including rescue operations through public-private-military-police cooperation, evacuation of residents due to fire suppression and spread, and media briefings.
An official from Yangsan City stated, "Through the Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill, we reaffirmed the importance of rapid situation assessment and sharing, as well as field-centered response in the event of a disaster," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to protect the lives and property of our citizens through ongoing drills and continuous assessment of our response system."
