Jangseong County in South Jeolla Province announced on October 29 that the Wood Technology Committee recently held a meeting to discuss the creation of the "Jangseong Wood Culture Experience Center."
The "Wood Culture Experience Center" is a facility designed to provide educational and hands-on activities utilizing wood. It is planned to be built in the Yeongcheon-ri area of Jangseong-eup. A total of 5.2 billion won in provincial and county funds will be invested, with the goal of completing the project by 2028.
The Wood Technology Committee is a group of experts formed to enhance the quality and completeness of the "Jangseong Wood Culture Experience Center" project. On October 1, the county appointed 11 committee members specializing in economics, humanities and social sciences, wood culture, wood materials, and wood structures. Their roles include reviewing the appropriateness of the basic and detailed designs for the experience center and providing advice on cultural and educational uses.
During this meeting, the committee engaged in in-depth discussions on various agenda items, including reviewing the possibility of changing the project site and the overall direction for constructing the facility.
Governor Kim Hanjong stated, "The construction of the experience center is a cornerstone for Jangseong's leap forward as a 'hub of wood culture.' We will continue to listen carefully to the committee's opinions and actively incorporate their feedback."
Meanwhile, in August, the county was selected for the Korea Forest Service's "National Wood and Timber Architecture Demonstration Project," securing a total project budget of 13 billion won, including national funding. By 2029, the county plans to build a "Forest Complex Cultural Center" in Wolpyeong-ri, Hwangryong-myeon, which will include a multipurpose auditorium, a small library, and care facilities.
