Pocheon City Receives Presidential Group Commendation for Civil Defense Work, First in Northern Gyeonggi

Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Younghyeon) received the Presidential Group Citation (for excellence in civil defense work) for the first time in northern Gyeonggi Province at the "50th Anniversary Ceremony of Gyeonggi-do Civil Defense Corps" held on the 29th.

This award is the result of Pocheon City’s outstanding performance in the "2025 Civil Defense Inspection Evaluation," which was jointly organized by Gyeonggi Province and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. In particular, during the comprehensive inspection process that assessed the overall operation of the civil defense corps, Pocheon City received the highest "Excellent" grade in both the Gyeonggi Province and Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluations, ultimately being selected as the final recipient of the award.

Pocheon City achieved excellent results across all areas of emergency preparedness and civil defense work, and received high marks especially for: increasing the completion rate of civil defense education; strengthening emergency response capabilities through effective civil defense drills; expanding and organizing the technical support civil defense corps; systematically managing civil defense warning, evacuation, and emergency water supply facilities; and proactively securing civil defense equipment.

Additionally, Pocheon City systematically inspected and maintained emergency water supply facilities and designated new ones, thereby establishing a stable water supply system for daily life even during wartime. The city also improved aging civil defense shelters and expanded warning facilities, thereby strengthening its response system to protect citizens’ lives and property even in national disaster situations.

Mayor Baek Younghyeon stated, "This Presidential Group Citation is the result of the dedication of all civil defense members and public officials in Pocheon City, who have prioritized citizens’ safety above all else. We will continue to provide effective civil defense education and training and expand our infrastructure to ensure that Pocheon remains a safe city where the precious lives and property of our citizens are protected in any emergency situation."
