On the morning of October 28, at 10 a.m., Yeongyang County hosted the 14th Oildo National Writing Contest and the 1st Poetry Recitation Contest at the Yeongyang County Community Center. The event, organized by the Yeongyang Literary Association (President Hwang Taejin), was a vibrant celebration filled with literary enthusiasm.
This event provided a meaningful opportunity to share the beauty of literature, featuring a variety of programs such as the writing contest, poetry recitation contest, and special lectures for participants gathered from all over the country.
In particular, the poetry recitation contest, held for the first time this year, drew enthusiastic responses as 25 children took the stage to recite poems and convey their emotional impact. The writing contest was conducted with around 250 participants across elementary, middle, high school, and university/general divisions, based on the themes of "Longing," "Fallen Leaves," "Shower," "Hillside Path," and "Embrace."
Additionally, Professor Choi Jinseok from the Department of Creative Writing at Seoul National University of Science and Technology delivered a lecture on "The 1937 Tragedy Without Mourning: The History of Forced Deportation of Koreans," offering attendees a profound reflection on the humanities.
County Governor Oh Dochang stated, "It was a meaningful time to share and experience the literary spirit of poet Oildo through the Oildo National Writing Contest," adding, "We will continue our efforts to establish Yeongyang as a place where literature and the arts coexist."
