"A Leap Toward Becoming the Center of the Future Energy Industry"
Gubokgyu, the governor of Hwasun County, participated in a "relay challenge" on the 29th to wish for the successful attraction of the artificial sun (nuclear fusion) research facility-a future clean energy source-to Jeonnam, and to draw the interest and support of county residents.

The purpose of this challenge is to build public consensus in the region to attract the site for the "Core Technology Development and Advanced Infrastructure Construction Project for Nuclear Fusion (Artificial Sun)" to Naju City in Jeonnam Province.
The artificial sun is a technology that produces clean electricity by using hydrogen, mimicking the energy generation principle of the sun. It is gaining attention as a key driver for achieving carbon neutrality and as a core of the future power industry.
Naju City is considered the optimal location for attracting the artificial sun research facility, as it has both the foundation and capabilities needed, centered around Korea Energy Engineering University-the world’s only energy-specialized university-as well as Korea Electric Power Corporation and the Energy Valley.
Governor Gubokgyu stated, "I hope that the artificial sun research facility will be attracted to Naju City, allowing Jeonnam to emerge as the center of the future energy industry." He added, "I send my support to the multifaceted efforts of Jeonnam Province and Naju City, and following this challenge, we will launch an on- and offline signature campaign involving all county residents. The county will also work together to attract the artificial sun research facility to Jeonnam."
