Strengthening the Operation of the "Global Issues and Global Citizenship" Course
Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghoon) has been selected for the '2026 Global Citizenship Education Course Support Project' organized by the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding under the auspices of UNESCO (APCEIU).
This marks the second consecutive year the university has been selected for this project.
APCEIU is an international organization established in 2000 through an agreement between the government of the Republic of Korea and UNESCO. It plays a significant role in promoting global citizenship education, as reflected in UNESCO's Education 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Global Citizenship Education Course Support Project aims to institutionalize and regularize global citizenship education in higher education, laying the foundation for its cross-curricular expansion. It also supports the enhancement of understanding and awareness of global citizenship education among domestic university and graduate students.
Following its selection for the project last year, Pukyong National University, under the leadership of the Department of International Studies, offered the 'Global Issues and Global Citizenship' course (supervised by Professors Jeong Beommo and Moon Gihong) to undergraduates in the first semester.
This course invited six experts in fields such as multiculturalism, global citizenship education, international development cooperation, economic justice, and international civil society. It was well received for addressing current global issues and exploring solutions.
With the Department of International Studies being selected for the project for two consecutive years, the university plans to offer the 'Global Issues and Global Citizenship' course again in the first semester of next year. The course will share a broader range of field experiences from various experts with students. It will also strengthen student experiential activities and invite experts who reflect the characteristics of Busan as a global maritime city, thereby enhancing students' practical competencies.
Moon Gihong, Professor of International Development Cooperation at the Department of International Studies, who will be in charge of the course, stated, "Being selected for this project for two consecutive years is a recognition of our capabilities in global citizenship education. We will continue to work hard to further strengthen our students' global citizenship and practical civic competencies."
