Intellectual Property Office Publishes "Intellectual Property and Innovation" Featuring Intellectual Property Rights Issues Provided by the Intellectual Property Office

This publication is issued once a year with the aim of sharing the latest information on intellectual property rights issues with the public and facilitating communication with experts and stakeholders from industry, government, and academia to discuss current challenges.

The eighth issue of "Intellectual Property and Innovation" was produced as a "Special Intellectual Property Edition" to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation and the 60th anniversary of Invention Day this year. It aims to revisit the creative spirit of invention demonstrated by our ancestors, highlight the originality of inventors in history, and reinforce national pride.

Additionally, it includes research findings on topics such as: ▲ Inventorship eligibility of artificial intelligence (AI) ▲ Specification requirements for composition inventions ▲ Ethical and patent law considerations regarding the autonomous trolley dilemma ▲ Development of invention education for nurturing creative talent in the AI era ▲ Measures to improve the domestic patent invalidation litigation system.

The trolley dilemma is a thought experiment that asks about the decision-making criteria of an operator in a situation where a trolley (train) has a brake failure and, if it continues straight, will sacrifice five people, but if the track is switched, will sacrifice one person.

The publication will be posted on the Intellectual Property Office website (Books & Statistics board) and distributed in print to relevant academic societies and related institutions.

Mok Seongho, Acting Commissioner of the Intellectual Property Office, stated, "The eighth issue of 'Intellectual Property and Innovation' is the result of our efforts to present a balanced perspective that connects the creative spirit of the past, technological innovation of the present, and institutional development for the future," adding, "The Intellectual Property Office will continue to do its utmost as a partner for the growth of the domestic economy."
