272 Participants from 15 Organizations Including Jeongeup Fire Station
Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province will conduct the "2025 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill" throughout the Jeongeup area on October 30.
According to the city on October 29, this drill will simulate a worst-case scenario in which a wildfire spreads to a nursing facility and a church, leading to an LPG gas explosion. The city plans to collaborate with 15 related organizations to assess its real-world response readiness.
The drill will be held at Jeongeup Senior Welfare Nursing Home, Chodae Church, and the Disaster and Safety Situation Room at Jeongeup City Hall, with 272 participants from 15 organizations and groups, including Jeongeup Police Station, Jeongeup Fire Station, and the 3rd Battalion of the 8098th Unit.
The exercise will cover the entire disaster response and recovery process in stages, including: ▲wildfire outbreak ▲fires at the nursing home and church ▲hazardous material (LPG) explosion ▲activation of the emergency rescue control team ▲operation of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and Integrated Support Headquarters ▲recovery and restoration phases.
In particular, elderly residents of the nursing facility will take part in the evacuation drill to enhance realism. The drill will also incorporate real-life cases such as the wildfire in Geumdong Village, Soseong-myeon, and local residents will participate to further improve the drill’s effectiveness.
At the same time, a problem-solving discussion-based drill will be conducted in the Disaster and Safety Situation Room at Jeongeup City Hall, running parallel to the on-site drill. Mayor Lee Haksoo, the Director of Urban Safety, heads of relevant departments, and representatives from related organizations-a total of 18 participants-will share the situation through a live dual broadcast between the field and the situation room.
Additionally, the city will use the disaster safety communication network (PS-LTE) to check the efficiency of the command system. The drill will proceed in a practical discussion format simulating a complex disaster scenario, including ▲initial situation reporting and assessment meetings ▲decision to activate the countermeasures headquarters ▲discussion of issues and solutions.
Through this drill, the city aims to review its response system that prioritizes the lives and safety of citizens, and plans to continue improving its training and systems to further strengthen real-world response capabilities.
Mayor Lee Haksoo stated, "Given the recent reality of frequent and diverse disasters, it is important to review and supplement our response system through realistic drills. We will continue to prioritize citizen safety and enhance our disaster response capabilities through ongoing training and system improvements."
