This assessment is based on citation data from SCOPUS, the world's largest academic database, and objectively analyzes the academic impact of researchers worldwide. The Stanford research team selects the top 2% of scientists globally by comprehensively evaluating each researcher's career-long and single-year (recent one year) impact, using metrics such as total citations, H-index, and co-authorship-adjusted citation index.

This year, Seoul National University of Science and Technology’s "Top 2% Scientists" include professors from the College of Engineering-Kim Taeyoung, Lim Sungjin, Jeong Eunsung, Jeong Yonghwan, Hwang Byungchul, Park Hyerim, Park Seonggun, Noh Youngsook, Choi Byungjun, Ahn Hyojin; College of Information and Communication-Park Jonghyuk, Choi Sewan, Kim Kyunghwa, Do Hyunrak, Lee Youngil; College of Energy and Biotechnology-Noh Inseop, Kim Cheol, Kwon Yongjae; College of Humanities and Social Sciences-Kim Sangmook; College of Technology Management and Convergence-Kim Kyungok; College of Creative Convergence-Yoo Seunghoon; and Graduate School of Railway-Choi Euimin.

The number of researchers selected from Seoul National University of Science and Technology increased to 25 this year, up from 21 last year, demonstrating internationally competitive research achievements in various fields such as engineering, energy, materials, environment, and information and communications.

This result serves as an indicator that the university's multifaceted research promotion policies-such as the establishment of the Scopus Pure researcher portal system, the introduction of a research performance evaluation system based on FWCI (Field-Weighted Citation Impact), and the expansion of research incentives-have led to tangible outcomes.

Kim Dongho, Director of Research, stated, "Our strategies to establish a data-driven research performance management system and enhance researchers’ international visibility are proving effective," adding, "Building on this, we plan to further strengthen our global research network in the future."

This achievement is particularly significant as it reflects the success of Seoul National University of Science and Technology’s efforts to build a data-driven research management system, including strengthening R&D infrastructure to become a research-oriented university, introducing the Scopus Pure researcher portal system, and establishing a research evaluation system based on FWCI.

In connection with this recognition, Seoul National University of Science and Technology is launching the "SeoulTech Global Research Achievements Newsletter" project. This initiative aims to enhance the international recognition of SeoulTech researchers by introducing outstanding research achievements, such as the "Top 2% Scientists," to major universities, academic societies, and research institutions abroad in the form of an English-language newsletter.

The newsletter will include the list of the world’s top 2% scientists and their major research achievements, examples of international joint research, and the status of key papers and patents. It will be regularly distributed to overseas partner universities, exchange institutions, and global research networks.

Through these efforts, Seoul National University of Science and Technology plans to actively promote not only the global dissemination of its research achievements but also the expansion of international joint research and overseas collaboration networks.

Going forward, Seoul National University of Science and Technology intends to further expand the impact of its research by building a network of outstanding researchers centered on those selected, increasing international joint research, and promoting interdisciplinary projects. In addition, the university is creating a sustainable research ecosystem through initiatives such as the ST Research Promotion Program and capacity-building programs for young researchers.

President Kim Donghwan stated, "The selection of 25 Seoul National University of Science and Technology researchers as ‘Top 2% Scientists’ is a testament to our university’s academic competitiveness and research culture," adding, "We will continue to provide full support so that creative and influential research can further expand on the global stage."
