KOSPI Hits Another All-Time High... SK Hynix Leads Gains

The KOSPI index started higher on the 29th, setting a new all-time high.


As of 9:14 a.m. on this day, the KOSPI index was trading at 4,030.70, up 0.51% from the previous trading day. The KOSPI opened at 4,061.54, up 1.27% from the previous session, breaking its previous record high.

In the KOSPI market, foreign investors were net sellers in the early session, offloading shares worth 108.6 billion won, while institutions and individual investors were net buyers, purchasing 74.7 billion won and 37.6 billion won worth of shares, respectively.


Most of the top market capitalization stocks were trading higher. Samsung Electronics rose by 0.40%, and SK Hynix, which reported its highest earnings since its establishment, was up 2.11%. LG Energy Solution (0.59%), Samsung Biologics (0.89%), Doosan Enerbility (7.52%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (0.51%), Hanwha Aerospace (1.41%), and Hyundai Motor (1.60%) were all posting gains.


Semiconductor-related stocks were also mostly on the rise, buoyed by positive news from Nvidia. On the 28th (local time), Nvidia held its fall developer conference (GTC) in Washington, D.C., announced support for AI supercomputers at research institutes under the U.S. Department of Energy, and unveiled plans to promote the construction of sixth-generation (6G) communication networks in the United States, reviving optimism among investors in AI technology innovation.


Han Ji-young, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, stated, "The domestic stock market is expected to see a tug-of-war around the 4,000 level, influenced by positive news from Nvidia, SK Hynix's earnings, the October FOMC, and the wait-and-see sentiment regarding the earnings of the U.S. M7 companies."


By sector, machinery and equipment (4.62%), construction (3.70%), electricity and gas (3.09%), and distribution (2.93%) were showing notable gains. In contrast, paper and wood (-0.48%), entertainment and culture (-0.43%), and securities (-0.30%) were declining.


The KOSDAQ, which started higher, has since turned downward. The KOSDAQ is currently trading at 901.93, down 0.15% from the previous trading day.


In the KOSDAQ market, individual and institutional investors were net buyers, purchasing 85.3 billion won and 14.9 billion won worth of shares, respectively, while foreign investors were net sellers, offloading 91.2 billion won worth of shares.


Most of the top market capitalization stocks on the KOSDAQ were also declining. Alteogen (-1.21%), Ecopro BM (-0.57%), Ecopro (-2.67%), Rainbow Robotics (-0.15%), Pharmaresearch (0.37%), and Ligachem Bio (-1.18%) were down. HLB (1.57%) and Samchundang Pharm (0.46%) were trading higher.
