"Guinness Record" for Korean Car: "693km on a Single Charge with Full Load"

Kia's First Dedicated PBV Model, PV5 Cargo
Sets Guinness World Record for Electric Light Commercial Vehicles

The Kia PV5 Cargo model has set a new Guinness World Record as the electric light commercial vehicle that has traveled the longest distance on a single charge.

On October 29, Kia announced that the PV5 Cargo model has been listed in the Guinness World Records as an electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV) for achieving the longest driving distance of 693.38 km on a single charge while carrying its maximum payload.

With this Guinness record, Kia has established a new standard for driving efficiency in the light commercial vehicle segment, while once again demonstrating its commitment to developing innovative and practical mobility solutions.

Ho Sung Song, President of Kia, stated, "The Guinness World Record set by the PV5 Cargo is a meaningful achievement that demonstrates Kia's vision to provide new mobility solutions beyond transportation," adding, "It proves that Kia's purpose-built vehicles not only remain as concepts but also deliver outstanding efficiency and practicality in real-world environments."

This record was achieved with the PV5 Cargo four-door model equipped with a 71.2 kWh battery. To demonstrate the vehicle's practicality, the test was conducted on September 30 in northern Frankfurt, Germany, with the vehicle loaded to its maximum payload capacity of 665 kg.

The driving course was designed to fully replicate logistics and delivery operations, consisting of repeated runs on 58.2 km of urban and suburban roads as well as elevation changes. The entire process was documented using GPS tracking and cameras installed inside the vehicle.

The driving was carried out by George Barrow, a commercial vehicle journalist, and Christopher Niggemeier, Senior Engineer at Hyundai Motor and Kia European Technical Center. Barrow commented, "It was impressive that the PV5 Cargo could travel more than 693 km on a single charge while carrying its maximum payload. I believe this record will be difficult to break for some time."

Niggemeier, Senior Engineer at Hyundai Motor and Kia, shared his thoughts: "With a deep understanding of the PV5 Cargo's PE system, I focused on energy-efficient driving. Through this record, I was truly impressed by the PV5 Cargo's driving capabilities."

The PV5 is Kia's first dedicated electrified purpose-built vehicle (PBV) model. Based on the PBV-exclusive electrification platform 'E-GMP.S', it is a new-concept mid-sized PBV that integrates hardware developed to meet diverse customer needs with software solutions that support optimal business environments.

In particular, the PV5 Cargo, which set this Guinness World Record, features not only a spacious cargo area but also a low loading height (the distance from the ground to the lowest point of the tailgate opening) and excellent space utilization, making it optimized for a variety of business environments.
