Hyundai and Kia Sell 97,846 Vehicles in Europe in September, Up 0.8% Year-on-Year

Tucson and Sportage Each Sell Over 10,000 Units

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia sold 97,846 vehicles in Europe last month, marking a 0.8% increase compared to the same period last year. However, their market share declined by 0.8 percentage points to 7.9%.


According to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) on October 28, Hyundai sold 48,181 units last month, up 3.3% year-on-year. Kia sold 49,665 units, a decrease of 1.6% from the previous year.

Total new car registrations across Europe reached 1,236,876 units. Hyundai and Kia's market shares were 3.9% and 4.0%, respectively, representing declines of 0.3 percentage points and 0.5 percentage points from the previous year.


For Hyundai, the Tucson (12,479 units) and Kona (7,831 units) led sales. Among eco-friendly vehicles, the Tucson Hybrid (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) sold 8,592 units, the Kona HEV and Electric Vehicle (EV) sold 6,269 units, and the Inster (Casper Electric) sold 3,144 units.


Kia's main models were the Sportage (17,406 units) and Ceed (6,679 units), while the electric SUV EV3 (6,081 units) established a foothold in the European market.


Additionally, based on cumulative sales from January to September, Hyundai and Kia sold a total of 797,888 vehicles in Europe, a 2.9% decrease compared to the same period last year. Hyundai recorded 402,176 units, down 1.6%, while Kia sold 395,712 units, down 4.3%. During the same period, the overall European market grew by 1.5% to 9,928,527 units.


By model, Hyundai sold 90,922 units of the Tucson, 61,937 units of the Kona, and 44,254 units of the i10. Kia sold 116,684 units of the Sportage, 69,406 units of the Ceed, and 50,152 units of the Morning.


In the eco-friendly segment, Hyundai sold 58,607 units of the Tucson HEV and PHEV, 49,629 units of the Kona HEV and EV, and 20,493 units of the Inster. Kia recorded 49,822 units of the EV3, 37,377 units of the Niro, and 12,986 units of the EV6.
