Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sangkeun) announced on the 28th that it has successfully completed the "2025 Large and Small Business Safety and Health Win-Win Cooperation Project," organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency.
Busan Port Authority is carrying out the "2025 Large and Small Business Safety and Health Win-Win Cooperation Project" organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency.
This project is a program in which large enterprises and public institutions with established safety management systems form consortiums with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to provide safety and health consulting and support on-site improvement activities.
SMEs receive consulting services and safety equipment at no cost, while large enterprises and public institutions benefit from government budget reimbursement and the effect of implementing ESG practices.
BPA has participated in this project since 2020, marking its sixth year of operation. This year, six SMEs located in the hinterland complex of the New Port participated. Among them, five companies have fewer than 50 employees and were recognized as exemplary cases in line with the objectives of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency's project.
This year, following the appointment of a new president, BPA shared a newly established joint labor-management safety and health management policy across the organization and focused on concretely implementing it through the win-win cooperation project. Over six months, BPA operated a total of six consultative bodies, maintaining close communication with participating companies.
BPA encouraged participation by providing practical support such as education expenses, improvement activity costs, and incentive rewards to help participating companies be recognized as outstanding workplaces in risk assessment. In addition, BPA supplied site-tailored safety and health items such as guardrails, sensors, laser devices for forklift accident prevention, AEDs, smart safety vests with fall detection, emergency kits, and protective equipment.
Efforts to spread a hands-on safety culture at worksites were also carried out in parallel. BPA promoted campaigns to prevent heat-related illnesses during hot seasons and to raise awareness of the right to stop work, implementing response activities tailored to seasonal and situational needs and strengthening workers' awareness of their safety rights.
Song Sangkeun, President of BPA, stated, "This project was implemented not just to provide simple support, but to offer practical assistance so that local SMEs can develop autonomous safety management capabilities. We will continue to create a safe and healthy Busan Port centered on people by advancing risk assessment, expanding worker participation, and establishing a culture of autonomous safety."
