The Yeongcheon City Council, led by Chairman Kim Seontae, announced that during the 248th extraordinary session, it listened to the 2026 major work reports from each department of the executive branch over a seven-day period from the 21st to the 27th, and presented a variety of opinions for the development of the city.


This major work report was organized to pre-examine the executive branch's major policy plans for 2026 and to discuss the direction for ongoing projects.

Following the major work report and according to the statements made by each council member, Assemblywoman Woo Aeja requested the minimization of inconvenience for senior citizens by shortening the period required for BF (Barrier-Free) certification during the senior center environment improvement project.


She also explained that the traffic situation around the Ai Haengbok Center is extremely dangerous and proposed solutions for traffic safety for children, as well as alternatives to address the lack of parking at the Lifelong Learning Center.


Assemblyman Kim Sangho emphasized that the construction of the Kumho Elementary School complex facility is a long-awaited project for the region, urging thorough preparation and close cooperation with relevant agencies to ensure smooth progress. He also called for an active response to the resumption of Route 808 city bus operations.


Assemblyman Kim Jonguk described the Kumho (Racetrack Park) station area urban development project as a crucial initiative for the next 100 years, noting that the lifting of the agricultural promotion zone within the development area is a prerequisite. He requested that the project be carried out in unity by reinforcing staff, and ordered the successful completion of the second phase after the opening of the Racetrack Park next year.


Assemblyman Lee Youngwoo expressed regret over the lack of food options at local festivals and proposed alternatives such as improving food quality through cooperation with local merchants' associations. He also requested more specific and systematic improvements to the Yeongcheon Four Seasons Festival plan.


Assemblyman Kim Yongmun suggested enhancing the competitiveness of student recruitment by expanding support for school meals from the current lunch-centered free meal program to include dinner, in cooperation with schools and North Gyeongsang Province, to provide high-quality meals.


Assemblyman Lee Younggi noted that the Comprehensive Sports Center is a public sports facility heavily used by citizens, and called for simultaneous implementation of facility improvement and repair projects to minimize inconvenience. He also requested continued promotion of public contest projects and cooperation with relevant departments to revitalize local commercial districts.


Assemblyman Ha Kitae urged the executive branch to respond quickly and proactively, pointing out that there have been no actual project implementations after the completion of the Yasaji District land readjustment project and the lifting of the military facility protection zone at the end of this year.


Assemblyman Kwon Gihan pointed out the low profitability compared to the tourism budget invested so far, and requested prompt improvement of tourism infrastructure such as restaurants and accommodations to meet the increased demand from tourists following the opening of the Bohyeonsan Dam suspension bridge.


Assemblyman Lee Gapgyun stressed that the integrated care service scheduled for implementation next year requires the establishment of a home medical care center through close cooperation between the Department of Social Welfare and the Public Health Center. He urged thorough preparation to avoid overlap with existing welfare and health projects.


Assemblywoman Bae Suye requested prompt compensation for residents for noise and dust damage caused during the development of the Yeongcheon Racetrack Park, which is scheduled to open next year, and called for the establishment of visitor attraction strategies and plans to foster related industries after the opening.


The council members especially emphasized the successful completion of the Yeongcheon Racetrack Park project, which is scheduled to open in 2026, and urged public officials to respond proactively, creatively, and flexibly to the rapidly changing needs of citizens.
