Gimhae City in Gyeongnam Province is taking action to resolve traffic congestion at Oedong Sageori, a major downtown bottleneck notorious for severe vehicle gridlock during rush hours.
On October 27, city officials announced that they will officially push forward with the improvement project for the congested intersection at Oedong Sageori.
According to the city, Oedong Sageori is where National Route 58 and Local Route 1024 intersect, serving as a key transportation axis connecting Naeoe New Town, Juchon Industrial Complex, and Samgye District. Due to this, citizens have been experiencing significant inconvenience from traffic jams during commuting hours.

To address this, the city will invest a total of 910 million won to add acceleration and deceleration lanes along a 175-meter stretch of road from Naeoe-dong toward Juchon, thereby improving the signal system.
Previously, the city began a detailed design service in January, completed changes to the district unit plan in March, and finished the detailed design in June. Construction is set to begin this month, aiming for completion by April next year.
The city expects this project to significantly improve traffic flow in the Oedong Sageori area.
In particular, it anticipates that signal waiting times during rush hours on the Naeoe-dong to Juchon New Town route will be reduced, resulting in increased vehicle travel speeds.
Additionally, the city plans to pursue mid- to long-term road improvement projects such as expanding the Naeoe New Town access road, establishing a bypass road for the Juchon Industrial Complex, and building an intelligent signal system. These efforts are expected not only to relieve congestion in the Oedong Sageori area, but also to improve downtown accessibility and alleviate transportation inconveniences for both citizens and industrial complex workers.
A city official stated, "We will expand the transportation infrastructure to match the city's growth and create changes that citizens can truly feel."
