The Dedication of Coaches, Managers, and Athletes Who Gave Their All
The Gumi Office of Education in North Gyeongsang Province (headed by Min Byungdo) raised the profile of Gumi City by achieving excellent results in various events at the 106th National Sports Festival, which was held across Busan Metropolitan City from October 17 to 23, 2025.
At this year’s event, the Gumi delegation, consisting of 79 athletes competing in 17 disciplines in addition to track and field, showcased their skills and won a total of 23 medals: 5 gold, 11 silver, and 7 bronze.
Surpassing last year’s tally of 2 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals, the entire North Gyeongsang Province student team secured 120 medals in total, making a significant contribution to achieving third place overall in the high school division for the fifth consecutive year at this festival.

Notably, Park Sihun from Kumoh High School (shot put) broke his own meet record set two years ago at the 104th National Sports Festival (previously 19.28 meters), recording 19.72 meters at this year’s event and achieving a remarkable three consecutive championships.
Seo Chaewon from Sangmo High School, who competed in the girls’ taekwondo poomsae, and Lee Somang from Gumi Jeil High School, who competed in the girls’ hapkido lightweight division, both dominated their respective events and claimed gold medals for the second consecutive year, following their victories last year.
In addition, the Hyunil High School boys’ ssireum team and Seonju High School’s boys’ bowling duo, Kang Dogeum, each won gold medals. All 79 participating athletes demonstrated their abilities, making significant contributions to Gumi City’s total of 23 medals.
Min Byungdo, Superintendent of Education, stated, “These achievements were made possible thanks to the dedication and hard work of the coaches, managers, and athletes who gave their all for this festival. Building on this momentum, we look forward to continued success at the 107th National Sports Festival next year.”
