Spreading a Culture of Consideration on Public Transportation
Through Collaboration Between Local Government and Korail
Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) has launched an initiative to create an environment where pregnant women can use public transportation with peace of mind.
The county held the "Pregnant Women Priority Campaign" on October 22, under the slogan "Your Consideration Protects Two Lives."
This campaign was organized by the Gijang County Health Center in collaboration with Korail Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters, and took place on the metropolitan trains and at stations along the Donghae Line within Gijang County. The goal was to promote proper use of priority seats for pregnant women and to foster a culture of consideration that citizens can truly experience.

On that day, staff from the health center and Korail distributed informational leaflets around the priority seats for pregnant women on the trains, explaining the significance of these seats and the etiquette for using them. They also spoke directly with passengers, sharing the message, "A small act of consideration protects two lives."
A male employee from Korail Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters wore a pregnancy simulation suit and used the train to personally experience the discomforts faced by pregnant women, raising awareness among passengers about the importance of yielding seats and showing consideration. The campaign drew attention as passengers responded positively, with many voluntarily vacating the priority seats for pregnant women.
One citizen commented, "Seeing it in person makes me realize the difficulties pregnant women face much more than just hearing about it. I hope campaigns like this continue regularly."
An official from Korail Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters stated, "We will continue to fulfill our social responsibility as a public institution by working with local governments to foster a warm and caring railway culture."
Governor Jung Jongbok said, "I hope this campaign will serve as an opportunity to spread a culture of consideration for pregnant women throughout society. We will continue to promote various awareness campaigns and participatory health promotion activities to make Gijang a city friendly to pregnant women."
