The Yangyang County G-Lab focuses on establishing a collaborative system to address regional challenges through the launch of the "Safe·Smart·Renaissance Yangyang" Living Lab, as well as strengthening the foundation for joint research by identifying major policy issues in Yangyang County and sharing research project directions. The goal is to solve problems on-site based on the region's unique characteristics and needs, and to disseminate research outcomes throughout the community.
The opening ceremony was attended by key figures including Lee Daehee, Director of the RISE Project Group; Baek Jungcheol, Principal Investigator of G-Lab; Tak Dongsoo, Deputy Governor of Yangyang County; and Lee Seongjin, Director of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Wildfire Prevention Center. The event featured welcoming remarks, congratulatory speeches, and presentations on operational plans, sharing the vision and direction of G-Lab as a hub for regional innovation.
The RISE Project Group stated, "Yangyang G-Lab is a living lab-based regional innovation platform designed to empirically address various local issues such as the ecological environment of Namdaecheon in Yangyang, cultural tourism, and wildfire prevention. Local governments, universities, related organizations, and civil society will work closely together to create a sustainable innovation ecosystem and help realize Yangyang as a leading city on the East Coast that people want to visit and live in."
Going forward, Yangyang County G-Lab plans to conduct living lab-based research to solve regional problems, build a collaborative network involving local governments, universities, institutions, and citizens, and strengthen the dissemination of research outcomes and their connection to policy. Through these efforts, the lab aims to implement a sustainable regional innovation model based on industry-academia-research-government cooperation and develop into a best practice of regional innovation governance for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
