Boosting Excitement for the Island Expo
Expanding the Base of Marine Sports
Yeosu City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Chung Kimyung), announced on October 27 that it will host the 3rd Turtle Senior National Yacht Competition for three days from October 31 to November 2 at the Soho Yacht Marina and surrounding areas. This event has been organized to build excitement for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo and to expand the base of marine sports.
Jointly hosted by South Jeolla Province and Yeosu City, and co-organized by the Jeonnam Yacht Association and the Yeosu Yacht Association, the competition will feature around 20 yachts in the 5- to 12-person class, creating a spectacular scene off the coast of Gamak Bay.
In particular, the 2025 Korea Sailing Championship, hosted and organized by the Korea Sailing Federation, will be held during the same period, further adding to the romance of the autumn sea.
For Yeosu citizens and tourists, two free spectator cruisers (cruiser yachts) will be operated for on-the-water viewing of the yacht races. Spectators will be able to enjoy the thrilling yacht competitions up close in the middle of the sea, with boarding available by advance reservation from October 27 to 31.
The opening ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. on November 1 at a special stage in Soho Yacht Marina, with about 300 participants including athletes and event officials expected to attend.
South Jeolla Province and Yeosu City plan to actively promote Yeosu as the host city for next year's 2026 Namhae Coast Cup International Yacht Competition, while also using the successful hosting of these two events to publicize the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo internationally.
A city official said, "We hope you fully enjoy the autumn sea of Yeosu, where the islands and the ocean create a beautiful backdrop, and experience the excitement of dynamic yacht races set against the pristine waters of Gamak Bay from the spectator cruisers."
