Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it had held a plenary meeting of the Residents' Participatory Budget Committee on the 24th and finalized the participatory budget projects for next year.
The city explained that, after reviewing proposals submitted by residents through a public call, as well as conducting reviews by relevant departments and a residents' general assembly, a total of 23 participatory budget projects were confirmed for next year, amounting to 1.388 billion won.
The confirmed projects include a wide range of initiatives reflecting residents' needs, such as the Hobeop-myeon Public Design Project and the Majang-myeon Riverside Park Convenience Facility Construction Project.
In particular, the city added that this year, it newly introduced the "Children and Youth Participation Project" category to promote the rights and participation of children and adolescents. The project selected in this category is "Twinkle Twinkle! Creating a Safe Neighborhood Path."
Nam Myungsoo, Chairperson of the Icheon Residents' Participatory Budget Committee, stated, "This year is especially meaningful because young people directly participated in the participatory budgeting system," and added, "We hope that many citizens will continue to participate in order to further vitalize the participatory budgeting system."
