1.5 Billion Won in Funding Over Three Years...
Full-Scale Launch of "Green Infrastructure and ESG Convergence Education" for the AGI Era
Sangmyung University announced on October 27 that it has been selected as a final participant in the "2025 Environmental Sector Specialized Leading University Development Project," jointly promoted by the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
As a result, Sangmyung University will receive a total of 1.5 billion won in government funding over three years, with 500 million won provided annually, to foster professionals specializing in "green infrastructure industry ecological restoration" as part of efforts to address climate change.
This project will be led by the Department of Green Smart City at the College of Convergence Technology, and will operate as a multidisciplinary convergence system with participation from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Department of Green Chemical Engineering, Department of Construction Systems Engineering, and Department of Information Security Engineering at the College of Engineering.
The project team plans to strengthen interdisciplinary education and industry-academia cooperation programs, focusing on key areas of green restoration such as carbon-neutral cities, industrial complex and urban ecological restoration, and ESG management.
In addition, through regular and extracurricular curricula and project-based learning, the university will nurture "AI-ESG convergence" talent equipped with: ▲ generative AI-based problem-solving skills ▲ CCS (Climate Change Simulation) technology-linked design capabilities ▲ the ability to design ESG information disclosure-type KPI values.
The Department of Green Smart City at Sangmyung University has been carrying out a Green Convergence Technology Specialized Graduate School project worth a total of 5 billion won from 2020 to this year, and with this new selection, its educational and research infrastructure is expected to be further strengthened.
Professor Kim Taehan stated, "In the era of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), climate response expertise is reaching a new turning point," adding, "We aim to nurture multidisciplinary talent that not only acquires knowledge but also understands AGI technology and encompasses NbS (Nature-based Solutions)."
