Realmeter Poll
Ruling Party Shaken by Aftermath of October 15 Measures
Following the October 15 real estate policy measures, President Lee Jaemyung's job approval rating has declined for two consecutive weeks. Support for the Democratic Party of Korea has also shown a downward trend.
According to a public opinion poll released by Realmeter on the 27th (commissioned by Energy Economy News, conducted from October 20 to 24 among 2,519 voters aged 18 and older nationwide via automated wireless phone response, with a margin of error of ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level and a response rate of 5.0%), the positive assessment of President Lee's job performance fell by 1.0 percentage point to 51.2%. The negative assessment remained unchanged from the previous week at 44.9%.
President Lee's job approval rating has declined for two consecutive weeks, reaching a level close to the second week of August (51.1%). Realmeter pointed out, "After the real estate policy measures, allegations of 'gap investment' by high-ranking officials and a series of inappropriate remarks by ruling party figures have emerged, which, combined with debates over the effectiveness of stricter regulations, have undermined public trust in the government." However, the company explained, "Economic, diplomatic, and public engagement activities such as 'KOSPI surpassing 3,900,' 'coordination of the Korea-U.S. summit,' and the 'Daegu town hall meeting' helped cushion the decline, resulting in only a slight drop in approval ratings."
In a separate party support poll (commissioned by Energy Economy News, conducted from October 23 to 24 among 1,001 voters aged 18 and older nationwide via automated wireless phone response, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level and a response rate of 4.1%), support for the ruling Democratic Party of Korea fell by 2.4 percentage points to 44.1%. Support for the People Power Party increased by 0.6 percentage points to 37.3%. The Reform Party recorded 3.5%, the Cho Kuk Innovation Party 3.3%, and the Progressive Party 1.5%, respectively.
