Samsung Conducts Second Half GSAT, Plans to Hire 60,000 Over Five Years

Samsung Group conducted the second half Samsung Job Aptitude Test (GSAT) over two days starting from the 25th.

According to Samsung on the 26th, this test is part of the process to select talent with comprehensive thinking and problem-solving skills, with participation from 19 affiliates including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung SDS, and Samsung Biologics.

Beginning with application submissions in August, Samsung plans to finalize new hires through the GSAT, interviews, and health examinations. Since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the GSAT has been conducted online, and this year followed the same format, with candidates taking the test independently via PC. One week prior to the test, a preliminary assembly was held to check networks and equipment.

In September, Samsung announced its plan to hire 60,000 new employees over the next five years. The company intends to focus recruitment on next-generation growth industries such as semiconductor-based component businesses, bio, and artificial intelligence (AI). Samsung stated, "Under our management philosophy of prioritizing talent, we will provide fair opportunities to young people and secure future growth engines."

Samsung, which introduced Korea's first open recruitment system for new employees in 1957, has maintained this system for nearly 70 years. In 1993, the company established an open recruitment program for female university graduates, and in 1995, it removed academic background restrictions, promoting an open hiring culture. Recently, Samsung has been strengthening a horizontal organizational culture by integrating job ranks and improving evaluation systems.

Alongside expanding recruitment, Samsung is also engaged in social contribution activities to support youth employment. Through internship programs linked to recruitment and technical talent hiring, the company provides practical experience to university students and Meister high school graduates, and has enhanced the social perception of technical personnel by specially hiring 1,600 winners of national skills competitions.

Additionally, Samsung operates the Samsung Software & AI Academy for Youth (SSAFY), a youth software and artificial intelligence education program, which has seen over 8,000 graduates since 2018, with employment at more than 2,000 companies. The company is also pursuing initiatives such as "Hope Stepping Stone 2.0" to support the economic independence of self-reliant youth, the "C-Lab Outside" startup incubation program, and various regional youth support projects.
