Daegu Uiseong Hometown Association Presents a New Model for Urban-Rural Coexistence
Uiseong's premium agricultural and specialty products met the citizens of Daegu. The "2025 Uiseong County Excellent Agricultural and Specialty Products Direct Market in Daegu," organized by the Daegu Uiseong Hometown Association (president Kim Joungho), was held successfully on the 25th at Duryu Water Purification Plant in Duryu Park, Daegu.
On the 25th, the Daegu-Uiseong Hometown Association held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to announce the opening of the Uiseong excellent agricultural specialty products direct market in Daegu. This event served as a platform for urban-rural coexistence, where the hard work of hometown farmers meets the consumption of city residents. It was jointly promoted by Uiseong County (Governor Kim Jusu) and the Daegu Uiseong Hometown Association.
The opening ceremony was attended by Kim Jusu, governor of Uiseong County; Choi Hunsik, chairman of the Uiseong County Council; Choi Taerim and Lee Chungwon, Gyeongbuk provincial council members; Ji Mujin, vice chairman of the Uiseong County Council; Lee Taehun, head of Dalseo District; and Lee Donghwan, president of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk City and Provincial Residents Association, among other key figures.
Captivating Daegu citizens, this direct market, now in its sixth year, featured participation from 53 farms and businesses. They showcased more than 80 items, including: ▲ fresh produce such as Uiseong garlic, premium rice, mixed grains, chili peppers, eggplants, apples, Shine Muscat grapes, jujubes, persimmons, and honey; ▲ livestock products such as Uiseong garlic beef and Korean pork; and ▲ processed foods such as black garlic, fermented sauces, pickles, sesame oil, tofu, and crispy rice snacks.
All products were sold at prices 10 to 20 percent lower than the market rate, attracting a constant stream of Daegu citizens to the venue. The Daegu Uiseong Hometown Association made a significant contribution to increasing farm income and revitalizing the direct market by purchasing a large amount of Uiseong Love Gift Certificates.
Kim Jusu, governor of Uiseong County, stated, "This direct market, created together by hometown farmers and association members, is a representative model of urban-rural coexistence. We will continue to expand sales channels for local farms and develop this event as a venue for exchange that fosters pride in our hometown among association members."
Choi Hunsik, chairman of the Uiseong County Council, said, "On this beautiful autumn day, it is a meaningful occasion for Uiseong's excellent agricultural and specialty products to meet the citizens of Daegu. I thank the members of the Daegu Uiseong Hometown Association for their dedicated preparations. I hope this event conveys the warmth of our hometown to Daegu citizens and provides tangible benefits to our farmers."
In his congratulatory remarks, Lee Donghwan, president of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk City and Provincial Residents Association, said, "Today's direct market is not just a sales event, but a symbolic occasion where the warmth of our hometown flows into the city.

Kim Joungho, president of the Daegu Uiseong Hometown Association and organizer of the event, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I thank all the distinguished guests for attending despite their busy schedules. National Assembly member Park Hyungsoo (Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongdeok, Uljin) sent a congratulatory message, stating, "I hope this event provides real help in increasing the income of hometown farms." Lim Mi-ae, a National Assembly member from the Democratic Party whose hometown is Uiseong, also sent a congratulatory message, saying, "I hope Uiseong's agricultural products will be recognized as representing the highest quality in Korea."
Held in the heart of Daegu, this direct market was more than just an agricultural sales event; it was a festival of coexistence that delivered the "heart of our hometown" to the city.
The dedication of Uiseong's farmers and the hometown pride of the Daegu Uiseong Hometown Association are creating a new model for the local economy and urban-rural cooperation. At the center of this "market where city and countryside smile together" was unwavering hometown love.
