A fishing vessel carrying eight people (two Koreans and six foreigners) capsized in the waters off Sinan, South Jeolla Province, but all were rescued by a nearby fishing boat.
According to the Mokpo Coast Guard on October 25, a report was received at 5:24 p.m. that day that a 24-ton coastal anchovy fishing vessel registered in Sinan, referred to as Vessel A, was flooding 33 kilometers north of Heuksando, Sinan County, South Jeolla Province.
The Coast Guard immediately dispatched all available rescue personnel, including helicopters, to the scene and requested assistance from fishing boats operating nearby.
Coincidentally, a fishing boat working in the accident area responded to the Coast Guard's request and rescued all eight crew members who were waiting for help on top of the capsized Vessel A.
Vessel A had departed Seomang Port in Jindo on October 23 for fishing operations, but the exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Fortunately, the rescued crew members of Vessel A reportedly suffered only minor bruises and hypothermia, with no other health issues.
The Coast Guard plans to investigate the exact cause of the accident based on statements from the captain and others.
