Yongsoon Park Appointed as Director General for SME Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups

Appointment of Deep-Tech and AI-Based SME Policy Expert as Director General

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 27th that Yongsoon Park, Director of Technology Innovation Policy at the ministry, has been appointed as Director General for SME Policy. The appointment of Yongsoon Park is seen as a reflection of Minister Han Sung-sook's commitment to actively promote the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises through AI-based manufacturing innovation, fostering deep-tech focused companies, and establishing a fair market order.

In particular, as Director of Technology Innovation Policy, the newly appointed Director General Yongsoon Park developed measures to promote and expand the use of artificial intelligence among SMEs and established policies to eradicate technology theft from small businesses. As a result, Park is regarded as a key talent capable of effectively implementing the Lee Jaemyung administration's national agenda to help SMEs grow through new technologies and advance globally.

Director Park, a native of North Chungcheong Province, holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from KAIST and a master’s in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University. Having entered public service in 2000 through the 34th Technology Examination, he has served for 25 years exclusively at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups as an expert in SME policy. He has held various positions, including Director of Venture, Startup, and Technology Affairs, as well as Director of Planning and Finance, demonstrating both specialized expertise and comprehensive planning and coordination capabilities in SME, startup, and venture policies.

Meanwhile, on the 2nd, the ministry appointed Kim Woojoong, Director of Policy Planning, as Director General for Planning and Coordination. Kim Woojoong is recognized as the right person to implement the Lee Jaemyung administration's national agenda, having previously been seconded to the National Policy Planning Committee.
