Steve Bannon, who served as a key strategist for U.S. President Donald Trump, has claimed to possess a secret plan for Trump’s potential bid for a third presidential term.

In an interview with The Economist on the 24th (local time), Bannon stated, “Trump will be president in 2028,” and added, “People need to get used to that idea.”

When the interviewer referenced the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which stipulates that no one can be elected president more than twice, Bannon responded, “There are various alternatives. I will reveal what the plan is at the appropriate time. But there is a plan, and President Trump will be president in 2028.”

President Trump lost to former President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, skipping four years in office, but he has already secured a second term with victories in the 2016 and 2024 presidential elections.

Bannon did not specify what path President Trump could take to circumvent the Constitution and pursue a third term.

President Trump himself has maintained an ambiguous stance regarding the possibility of seeking a third term. It has been reported that, both publicly and privately, he has joked about wanting to serve as “president for life.”

However, on the day of last year’s presidential election, when a New York Times (NYT) reporter asked whether the 2024 election would be his last, Trump replied, “I think so,” expressing a negative view on seeking another term.

Nevertheless, some experts analyze that Trump’s refusal to fully rule out another run is a strategic decision aimed at delaying lame-duck status for as long as possible.

The New York Times (NYT) reported that it is unclear whether Bannon has shared the third-term plan with President Trump himself or his aides.
