This year, Goseong County plans to purchase 4,860 tons, which accounts for 24% of the total 20,321 tons allocated for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. Of this, 1,098 tons will be purchased as freshly harvested rice and 3,762 tons as dried rice.

The purchase of freshly harvested rice was completed at three locations-Jukjeong DSC, Gyodong RPC, and Toseong DSC-through Goseong Integrated RPC from September 15 to October 4.

For dried rice, purchases will begin on October 27 at the Hwajinpo Beach parking lot and Jukjeong DSC, and continue at designated locations in each town and township, including Daejin-ri and eight other villages, until the end of November. The rice must be dried to a moisture content of 13-15% or less and will be purchased in 800kg (ton bag) units.

On the day of purchase, an interim payment of 40,000 won per 40kg sack will be paid immediately. The final payment will be made by the end of December, once the farm-gate rice price for the harvest season (October to December) has been determined.

This year’s purchase varieties are Samgwang No.1 and Odae. Under the variety verification system, if rice varieties other than those designated for purchase are shipped, the farm will be excluded from public reserve rice purchases for five years. Therefore, farmers must take extra care to avoid disadvantages resulting from shipping non-designated rice varieties.

Ham Myungjun, Governor of Goseong County, stated, "The public reserve rice purchase system is an important measure to ensure stable income for farmers and to stabilize the rice supply and demand," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure fair and transparent purchases so that farmers can ship their harvested rice with confidence."
