Withdrawal of Large-Scale Federal Agent Deployment in San Francisco
The U.S. government has withdrawn its plan to deploy the National Guard to San Francisco, California, citing efforts to eradicate crime.
On the 23rd (local time), President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social, "The federal government was preparing a large-scale intervention operation in San Francisco on the 25th (local time), but last night, my friends living in the area called and asked me to stop, so we decided not to proceed with the operation."

He added that he spoke with Mayor Breed, who requested an opportunity to turn the situation around, and that he accepted her request.
President Trump specifically mentioned, "Key figures such as Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, and Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, called and said the future of San Francisco is bright and that the city deserves another chance." As a result, the additional deployment of federal agents scheduled for this weekend has been put on hold.
President Trump continued, "The citizens of San Francisco have united in the fight against crime since we began to address these serious problems. Outstanding people like Jensen Huang and Marc Benioff called me and said, 'The future of San Francisco is bright.' They want to give the city another chance. Therefore, we will not deploy federal agents to San Francisco on Saturday."
Mayor Breed also shared on social media that President Trump called her and informed her of his decision to suspend the federal deployment to San Francisco.
She stated, "We still have much work to do. We have continued to cooperate with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and federal prosecutors to drive drugs and drug offenders out of our city. However, if the federal government were to deploy military and Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel in San Francisco, it could actually hinder our resilience."
This decision comes as the Trump administration has been deploying federal agents to major Democratic-led cities under the pretext of maintaining public order and cracking down on illegal immigration. President Trump has mainly targeted Democratic strongholds, justifying military deployment on the grounds of high crime rates.
The National Guard has already been deployed to Los Angeles (LA), Washington D.C., and Memphis. In June, when protests broke out in LA against the administration's aggressive policies, including illegal immigration crackdowns, Trump sent a large number of National Guard troops into downtown LA. In August, the National Guard was also deployed to Washington D.C. to wage what was called a "war on crime."
At the end of September, the city of Portland, Oregon, described itself as a "city devastated by the war on crime" and ordered the deployment of the National Guard. However, that deployment plan was temporarily halted by a federal judge.
