Joint Campaign by Game Culture Foundation and Shingu Library Foundation
World-renowned professional gamer and avid reader Faker Lee Sanghyuk of T1 is joining forces with the Game Culture Foundation to launch a reading promotion campaign.
On October 24, the Game Culture Foundation and the Shingu Library Foundation announced that they will conduct a reading encouragement campaign together with Faker. The campaign's slogan is "Shh! The Secret to Victory, Reading," and its goal is to foster reading habits among young people. The posters will be distributed to public libraries and school libraries nationwide.
On October 23, Faker received the "Reader & Leader Award" in the Shingu Cultural Awards, hosted by the Shingu Library Foundation. In his acceptance speech, Faker said, "One of the reasons I started reading was to become better at gaming," and added, "Reading has significantly changed my attitude toward games and my perspective on life. I believe it's thanks to books that I can enjoy being a professional gamer."
In the past, Faker has also revealed his extensive reading list on internet broadcasts. The list includes novels such as "Sleep" by Bernard Werber and "1Q84" by Haruki Murakami, as well as humanities and science books like "Justice: What's the Right Thing to Do?" by Michael Sandel, "Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson, and "Cosmos" by Carl Sagan. It also features a variety of works including "How to Respond to Rude People with a Smile" by Jung Moonjung.
Yoo Byunghan, Chairman of the Game Culture Foundation, stated, "Faker is someone who has proven the maximization of personal capabilities through the synergy between gaming and reading. We are grateful to Faker for his significant contribution to spreading a culture of positive actions and encouraging reading among young people through this campaign."
