The city plans to invest a total project budget of 76.1 billion KRW (45.7 billion KRW in national funding and 30.4 billion KRW in local government funding) in the six new projects, including sewer pipeline maintenance in the Wonju treatment area, to prevent water pollution and protect water quality in the upper reaches of the Han River, including the Seomgang water system.
In addition, for 12 ongoing projects such as the sewer pipeline maintenance project in Hwangdun-ri, Sillim-myeon, the city has secured 22.7 billion KRW in national funding for next year out of a total project budget of 201.1 billion KRW (105.9 billion KRW in national funding and 95.2 billion KRW in local funding), ensuring that current sewer pipeline projects will continue without interruption.
Wonju City has made significant efforts to secure national funding by frequently visiting central government agencies such as the Ministry of Environment and the Wonju Regional Environmental Office to explain the necessity and justification of the projects and to address local issues. As a result, the city has achieved the major accomplishment of securing this national budget.
Nam Kieun, Director of the Waterworks and Sewerage Office, stated, "By securing national funding, we will be able to proactively respond to the increasing demand for sewer treatment areas and significantly contribute to revitalizing the local economy by enhancing Wonju’s status as a clean city through public water quality conservation. We will continue to do our best to make Wonju a better place to live by improving residents’ living environments and advancing sewerage administration."
