First Place in the Heifer Category, Third Place in the Female Calf Category
Sungju County announced on the 23rd that at the recently held '2025 Gyeongbuk Hanwoo Competition' at Munjeong Riverside Park in Yeongju, the Hanwoo farm of Yeo Hwayeon in Byeokjin-myeon, Sungju County won first place in the heifer category, while the Hanwoo farm of Kim Changho in Sungju-eup received third place in the female calf category.
The Hanwoo competition, which took place on the 21st, is an annual event aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the Hanwoo industry in North Gyeongsang Province and selecting outstanding Hanwoo cattle. It is recognized as a prestigious competition where Hanwoo representing cities and counties across the province are entered and their quality is evaluated.
A total of 77 Hanwoo cattle from 18 cities and counties in the province competed, with the final rankings determined through comprehensive evaluations, including appearance, body structure, development, and muscle formation.
Yeo Hwayeon, who won first place in the heifer category, said, "I devoted great care to every step of the process, from selecting feed and improving the breeding environment to health management, to enhance the quality of Hanwoo."
An official from Sungju County stated, "This award is the result of outstanding cattle management techniques and the passion of Hanwoo farmers in Sungju. We will continue to discover and promote various policy projects, such as the Hanwoo female improvement project and genomic analysis of female Hanwoo, to further improve Hanwoo quality and do our utmost to increase the income of livestock farmers."
