In addition, a total of around 280 people will participate, including 20 related organizations such as Gwangju City, the Western Fire Station, the Western Police Station, and the Gwangju Sports Council, as well as private organizations such as the Seo-gu Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps and the Safety Monitoring Volunteer Group, and local residents.
The drill will be conducted in two formats simultaneously: a 'tabletop exercise' and a 'field exercise.' The tabletop exercise will take place in the Seo-gu District Office Disaster Safety Situation Room, presided over by Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang, who serves as the head of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. Thirteen functional working groups will participate and hold meetings on situation assessment, formation of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, disaster response and recovery support, among other topics.
The field exercise will focus on on-site response and recovery activities, simulating complex disaster scenarios such as earthquakes and electric vehicle fires at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium, a multi-use facility.
In particular, Seo-gu District will conduct this as a 'no-notice drill,' where scenario messages and other details are not released in advance, to enhance real-world disaster response capabilities. In addition, the district will strengthen cooperation systems by sharing real-time information between the disaster site and the situation room through the disaster safety communication network and by broadcasting video via YouTube.
After the drill, Seo-gu District plans to conduct an internal evaluation, share exemplary cases, address deficiencies, and ensure thorough preparedness for future disasters.
Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang stated, "Realistic drills among relevant agencies are crucial for effective response to unexpected disasters," adding, "Through this drill, we will establish a robust response system and do our utmost to protect the lives and safety of our residents."
