Seoul Bar Association to Hold Academic Conference on "Litigation Issues in Corporate and Insurance Law"

The Seoul Bar Association (President Cho Soonyeol), in collaboration with the Korean Society of Business Law, will hold an academic conference to examine key litigation issues in corporate and insurance law in light of recent discussions on amendments to the Commercial Act.

On the 23rd, the Seoul Bar Association announced that it will host an academic conference on the theme of "Litigation Issues in Corporate and Insurance Law" at the Bar Association Hall in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the 24th. The conference will explore how amendments to corporate law may affect litigation practice and review measures to expand Directors and Officers Liability Insurance (D&O Insurance) as a risk management tool in response to strengthened director responsibilities.

In the first session, Song Okryeol, Professor at Seoul National University School of Law, will deliver a presentation on "The Impact of Expanding Directors' Fiduciary Duties to Shareholders on Litigation Practice." The discussion will feature Noh Miri, Professor at Dong-A University School of Law, and Shin Min, attorney at Jipyong LLC. The second session will feature Bae Giwan, attorney at Jipyong LLC, presenting on "Mandatory Cumulative Voting, the 3% Rule, the Introduction of Separate Election of Audit Committee Members, and Litigation Issues." The panel discussion will include Yoon Seungyoung, Professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies School of Law, and Son Changwan, Professor at Yonsei University School of Law.

The third session will feature Lee Bomi, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice, presenting on "Current Status and Development Tasks of Legal Service Insurance," with Kim Yeongeun, attorney at the General Insurance Association of Korea, and Lim Woongchan, attorney at Dowon LLC, participating in the discussion. In the final session, Yang Heeseok, Professor at Chungnam National University School of Law, will present on "D&O Insurance and Litigation Issues," with Yoon Giyeol, attorney at the Korea Insurance Development Institute, and Maeng Juhan, attorney at Yulchon LLC, joining the panel.

A representative of the Seoul Bar Association stated, "We hope that this academic conference will propose desirable alternatives that can promote both transparency and legal stability in corporate management."
