Pusan National University Pilots Korea’s First ‘AI Interpretation and Translation Glasses’ Among Universities

AX Transformation Project
Expanding AI Demonstration Across Education and Administration

Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) is introducing AI smart glasses specialized in interpretation and translation for the first time among universities in Korea, piloting their use across education, research, and administration.

On October 23, Pusan National University announced that it would be the first to introduce AI interpretation and translation glasses as part of its "AX Transformation (Artificial Intelligence Transformation) Project," aiming to verify the effectiveness and suitability of advanced AI technologies.

The newly introduced "AI interpretation and translation glasses" are innovative wearable devices that display real-time subtitles in the user's field of vision. They instantly recognize and translate foreign language speech during lectures, seminars, and international conferences, presenting the translation as subtitles.

Supporting over 20 languages, including Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese, with an accuracy rate of more than 98%, the device is expected to expand to more than 70 languages in the future. In particular, by combining the latest speech recognition and natural language processing (NLP) technologies, it is evaluated as surpassing mobile translation apps in both accuracy and response speed.

On October 15, Pusan National University held the "AX Leading Committee" and confirmed the pilot introduction of these glasses and their dedicated interpretation and translation app. The product, manufactured by Expert INC, is the world's lightest AI smart glasses and was unveiled to the global market at CES 2025.

This pilot operation serves as a demonstration project within the university's ongoing "AX Transformation Project," aiming to verify the utility of AI technology from multiple perspectives across education, research, and administration.

Going forward, Pusan National University will collaborate with KMAC (Korea Management Association Consulting) to jointly design an "AI Reliability & Ethics Framework" and plans to expand its application to all areas of the campus.

The university will first implement the pilot program among faculty, administrative departments, and graduate classrooms, and plans to expand it comprehensively after evaluating its effectiveness. In particular, it aims to apply the system to areas where language support has been limited, such as psychological counseling for international students, to establish a practical operational model for an "AI learning-assistive wearable system."

President Choi Jaewon of Pusan National University stated, "This AI glasses interpretation and translation system is not merely the introduction of a new technology, but an innovative case that expands the accessibility and inclusivity of university education. We will work to eliminate educational inequality caused by language barriers and support talented individuals from around the world in freely realizing their academic potential at Pusan National University."
