On October 23, the Yeosu Police Station in South Jeolla Province announced that it had urgently arrested a woman in her 30s, identified as Ms. A, on charges of child abuse and violations of the Child Welfare Act, after she allegedly abused her four-month-old son.
Ms. A is suspected of leaving her infant, who was unable to support himself, unattended in the bathtub of her home bathroom in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, at around 12:30 p.m. the previous day.
Ms. A reportedly discovered the child in the bathtub belatedly and called emergency services (119), after which the child was transported to the hospital, but was found to be unconscious.
Ms. A is said to have testified that she was watching TV while leaving the child in the bathtub.
The hospital staff discovered signs of abuse on the child’s body and reported the case to the police.
The police plan to conduct a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident involving Ms. A.
