Visit to Japan Coincides with Appointment of New Prime Minister Takaiichi
"Consensus on Communication and Cooperation with Japan's New Cabinet"
National Security Advisor Wi Sunglak visited Japan for a two-day trip, where he met with key Japanese political and government figures, including Ichikawa Keiichi, Director-General of the National Security Secretariat. He delivered a message emphasizing the need to continuously advance South Korea-United States relations.
On October 22, the Presidential Office announced that Advisor Wi visited Japan from October 21 to 22, coinciding with the appointment of Takaiichi Sanae as the new Prime Minister of Japan. The Presidential Office explained that this visit was intended to maintain the positive momentum in South Korea-Japan relations following the launch of the new cabinet.
The Presidential Office stated, "We shared the recognition of the importance of stable development in South Korea-Japan relations even under the new cabinet," and added, "Both sides agreed to continue communication and cooperation not only between the two governments but also through various channels such as the National Assembly and the private sector."
During this visit, Advisor Wi may also have coordinated the schedule and agenda for a South Korea-Japan summit to be held on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju at the end of October. Previously, President Lee Jaemyung stated on Facebook on October 22, "I look forward to meeting Prime Minister Takaiichi in person in Gyeongju, where the APEC summit will be held, and having a constructive dialogue."
